Are Strategy Games similar to Chess in improving Brain Power?

I can see that turn-based, tactical strategy games like Disgaea and Record of Agarest War are similar to Chess, but I wonder if it applies in similar ways to Chess in increasing brain power. Please elaborate with reasonable explanation or provide a link to websites that explain in details relating to only strategy games, preferably turn-based tactical RPGs. Mature, detailed answers are given +10 points. Thank you.

What is a good chess strategy?

What is a good chess strategy?

I'm fairly new at the game of chess (5-6 games) and I have been stomped each and every time. I was wondering what some good offense and defense strategies are to keep my opponent on their toes. I realize that in the end of the game I'm always on defense where the other guy is on offense. Are there any strategies I can learn to become a better chess player? How do you typically start a game, Move the pawns to free the bishop, move the knights, I'm not sure on anything. Please help!! The guy I play is getting big headed and its time to defeat him.

I need an answer immediately. I'm participating for a chess competition in my school. So, I must win the game and I'll need the best strategy. My teacher said that we must have strategy while playing chess and I don't know what it is. This is my second time participating in a chess competition and during my first time, I lost. I really really want to win this and need anybody's help. So, to those who have experience in participating or always playing chess or expert in chess or...whatever. Teach me how.

Thank you.

What is the name of this chess strategy?

What is the name of this chess strategy?

About 25 years ago, I played a game of chess where the other player purposely allowed me to take his queen, bishops, knights, and rooks, so all he had left were his king and pawns. Then, he systematically destroyed me, using his pawns to take all my men. After he won, he told me the name of the strategy he used, but for the life of me I can't remember it. I'm sure it's something simple and obvious but I'm drawing a blank.

Big thanks to anyone that can help!
